Day 1 of 6
Pickup at Guwahati and drive north-east to Dirang, with an ILP check at Bhalukpong en route. Stay overnight at Dirang.
Climb up over the dramatic Sela Pass at 13,700 ft, with stops at Sela Lake (frozen most of the year) and the Jaswant Garh War Memorial. Visit Kiwi Garden, then descend into Tawang.
Pre-dawn drive to Bum La Pass at 15,200 ft (subject to army permits and weather). Visit Pankang Teng Tso and Madhuri (Shungatser) Lake. Evening at the Tawang War Memorial with its Sound & Light show. Foreigners and NRIs are restricted from Bum La / Madhuri Lake.
Morning at Tawang Monastery — the second-largest monastery in Asia after Lhasa's Potala, founded in 1681 and birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. Drive back to Dirang via Nuranang waterfall at Jang.
Visit Bomdila Monastery and the apple orchards. Continue on to Tezpur in the Assam plains, with photo stops at the Nag Temple (snake god) and Agnigarh.
Drive back to Guwahati. Optional stop at Kamakhya Temple. Drop at the airport / railway station for departure.
