Day 1 of 8
Pickup at Bagdogra / NJP and drive to Gangtok. Evening on MG Marg.
Visit Rumtek Monastery (seat of the Karmapa Lama), Enchey Monastery, Hanuman Tok and Ganesh Tok hilltop temples, and the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology.
Full-day excursion to Tsomgo Lake at 12,310 ft and Baba Harbhajan Singh temple near the China border. Return to Gangtok for the night.
Drive west across the state to Pelling, with stops at Tashi viewpoint and Namchi en route. Evening at the helipad viewpoint for first views of Kanchenjunga.
Pre-dawn at the Kanchenjunga viewpoint for sunrise on the third-highest peak in the world. Visit Sangachoeling Monastery (1697) and Pemayangtse Monastery (1705) in the morning, then the sacred Khecheopalri Lake in the afternoon.
Drive south to Namchi to visit Samdruptse — a 135-foot statue of Guru Padmasambhava on a hilltop — and the Char Dham complex with miniature replicas of all four major Hindu shrines. Stay at Namchi for the night.
Drive east to Darjeeling. Afternoon at Happy Valley tea estate with first-flush tasting, then evening on the Mall with dinner at Glenary's.
Pre-dawn at Tiger Hill for Kanchenjunga sunrise. Drive down to Bagdogra airport / NJP for departure.
