Day 1 of 7
Pickup at Bagdogra / NJP and drive ~4 hrs up to Gangtok via the Teesta valley. Evening on MG Marg.
Visit Rumtek Monastery (seat of the Karmapa Lama), Do Drul Chorten stupa, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Enchey Monastery and Hanuman Tok hilltop temple.
Long drive north up the Teesta to Lachen at 2,750 m. Photo stops at Seven Sisters Waterfall and Naga Falls en route. Brief at the lodge for tomorrow's high-altitude trip.
Pre-dawn drive to Gurudongmar Lake at 17,800 ft — one of the highest lakes in the world, sacred to Sikkimese Buddhists and Sikhs. Return to Lachen for breakfast, then drive south to Lachung in the evening.
Drive to Yumthang Valley — the 'Valley of Flowers' which blooms with rhododendrons and primulas in April-May. Continue to Zero Point at 15,300 ft — the last civilian outpost before the China border. Return to Lachung for the night.
Long drive back south to Gangtok. Easy evening on MG Marg before tomorrow's departure.
Morning drive down the Teesta to Bagdogra airport / NJP for departure.
