Meghalaya
A seven-day Meghalaya-only itinerary focusing entirely on the 'Abode of Clouds' — Shillong's pine ridges, Cherrapunjee's living root bridges, Mawlynnong's cleanest village, Dawki's crystal river, and Krang Suri's blue cascade. The deepest dive into Meghalaya without the rush of multi-state circuits.
7 days of carefully crafted experiences
Day 1 of 7
Pickup at Guwahati airport / railway station and drive ~3 hrs south to Shillong via the scenic Umiam Lake viewpoint. Easy evening walk on Police Bazaar and dinner at Café Shillong.
Full local Shillong day — the three-tiered Elephant Falls, Ward's Lake colonial gardens, the Don Bosco Museum of Indigenous Cultures (one of the best ethnographic museums in India), and the city's highest point at Shillong Peak for sweeping views.
Drive south to Cherrapunjee, once the wettest place on earth. Stop at Mawkdok Dympep viewpoint, hike to the three-tiered Wei Sawdong Falls, then visit Nohkalikai (India's tallest plunge waterfall), the Seven Sisters Falls and Mawsmai limestone caves.
Drive to Tyrna village and trek down ~3,000 steps through cloud forest to Nongriat, home to the famous 200-year-old Double Decker Living Root Bridge. Cross wire suspension bridges over crystal streams. Optional extension to Rainbow Falls. Return trek up and back to the hotel.
Drive to Mawlynnong — Asia's Cleanest Village — for its bamboo-fenced lanes, Balancing Rock, Sky View machaan and the Single Decker Living Root Bridge at Riwai. Continue to Dawki for a sunset boat ride on the crystal-clear Umngot river. Overnight at a riverside camp at Shnongpdeng.
Drive north via Jowai to Krang Suri Falls — Meghalaya's bluest waterfall — with a natural pool perfect for a swim. Continue to Laitlum Canyons (famous from the film Rock On 2) for sweeping views across the Khasi Hills. Reach Shillong by evening.
Morning drive back to Guwahati. Drop at the airport / railway station for your onward journey home.
