Day 1 of 7

Touch down at Srinagar airport and drive past chinar-lined boulevards to your private houseboat moored on Dal Lake. After a Kahwa welcome and a leisurely check-in, glide across the lake on a sunset Shikara — past floating vegetable gardens, lotus channels and the silhouette of the Zabarwan range.

Drive through apple orchards and rice paddies to Gulmarg, the Meadow of Flowers. Ride the Gondola — Asia's highest cable car — up to Kongdoori at 3,080m for sweeping views of Nanga Parbat and the Pir Panjal range. Return to Srinagar by evening for dinner on the lake.

Drive northeast along the Sindh river to Sonmarg, the Meadow of Gold. A short pony ride takes you to the foot of Thajiwas Glacier — a river of ice that endures even through summer. Return to Srinagar with stops at trout-fishing streams and roadside Kahwa stalls.

Spend the day exploring Srinagar's UNESCO-tentative Mughal Gardens — the terraced Nishat Bagh, the Emperor's Shalimar Bagh, and the smaller, charming Chashme Shahi. Drive up to Shankaracharya temple for panoramic views of Dal Lake, the Old City, and the snow-tipped peaks beyond.

Drive south through the saffron fields of Pampore — the world's only commercial Kashmiri saffron region — and reach Pahalgam by lunch. Spend the afternoon walking along the Lidder river and exploring the small markets of this riverside town.

A full day exploring the spectacular side valleys of Pahalgam. Visit Betaab Valley — once a Bollywood backdrop, now a meadow framed by towering peaks. Continue to flower-carpeted Aru Valley and on to Chandanwari, the snowfield starting point of the Amarnath Yatra.

After breakfast, drive back to Srinagar airport with one final glance at the apple orchards and chinar avenues. Carry home Pashmina, saffron, and the memory of a valley that lives up to every postcard.
