The place

Sun-kissed beaches, Portuguese heritage, and vibrant nightlife make Goa India's favourite coastal escape. From the lively shores of Baga to the serene coves of South Goa, the smallest state packs a punch far beyond its size.

Goa is India's party capital and spiritual retreat rolled into one tiny coastal state. For over 450 years under Portuguese rule, Goa developed a hybrid culture that blends Latin Catholicism with Hindu traditions, creating a vibe found nowhere else in the country. The Old Goa churches - including the Basilica of Bom Jesus, which houses the remains of St. Francis Xavier - are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and the whitewashed chapels scattered through the countryside give the landscape a distinctly Mediterranean flavour. North Goa is where the action lives: Baga and Calangute beaches throb with shack music and water sports, Anjuna hosts the legendary Wednesday flea market, and Vagator's hilltop clubs overlook the sea with world-class DJs spinning till dawn. Cross the Zuari River to South Goa and the mood shifts - Palolem's crescent beach, Agonda's quiet sands, and Cabo de Rama's clifftop fort offer a more relaxed, nature-focused experience. Beyond the beaches, Goa surprises with spice plantations in Ponda, mangrove kayaking in Cumbarjua, and Fontainhas - a neighbourhood in Panaji lined with colour-washed Portuguese-era houses and bakeries selling warm bebinca and poee bread. The Goan seafood thali - featuring prawn balchao, fish curry rice, and sol kadhi - is a culinary experience in itself. Whether you come for the party or the peace, Goa has a way of making you stay longer than you planned.
