Overview

The sacred pilgrimage to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath is India's holiest spiritual circuit. Set amidst the grandeur of the Garhwal Himalayas, the Char Dham Yatra is a journey of faith, endurance, and overwhelming natural beauty.

The Char Dham Yatra is Hinduism's most revered pilgrimage circuit, connecting four sacred shrines in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. Each shrine sits at the source of a holy river: Yamunotri at the origin of the Yamuna, Gangotri where the Ganga begins, Kedarnath dedicated to Lord Shiva beside the Mandakini, and Badrinath devoted to Lord Vishnu on the banks of the Alaknanda. Completing the full circuit is believed to wash away all sins and pave the path to moksha. The journey itself is as transformative as the destination. The route winds through some of the most spectacular mountain scenery on earth — deep gorges, thundering waterfalls, alpine meadows carpeted in wildflowers, and snow-capped peaks that pierce an impossibly blue sky. Kedarnath, at 11,755 ft, was devastated by floods in 2013 but has been rebuilt with a massive protective wall, and the trek to its ancient temple through a valley of rhododendron forests remains deeply moving. Badrinath, flanked by the Nar and Narayan peaks, contains a temple believed to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. Modern infrastructure has made the yatra more accessible than ever — helicopter services connect the shrines, the Char Dham Highway project is widening roads, and accommodation ranges from basic dharamshalas to comfortable hotels. Yet the essence remains unchanged: a deeply personal journey through some of the most sacred and spectacular terrain on the planet.
